About Us

Urban Ventures Leadership Foundation is a nonprofit human services organization located on Fourth Avenue South and Lake Street in south Minneapolis. Through our numerous programs and initiatives, we serve nearly 12,000 residents in the Phillips and Central neighborhoods annually. Founded in 1993, Urban Ventures’ mission is to build successful community in the city. This mission is accomplished through three strategies:

Develop Youth Leadership
Our youth programs aim to raise a new generation of urban leaders who are excellent educationally, technically, vocationally and morally.

Strengthen Families
Through strong partnerships and dynamic programs, we nurture and empower families and faith-based communities.

Create Meaningful Work Opportunities
By restoring the economic engine of the community through business development and recruitment, we help create living wage jobs for neighborhood residents.

GoLatino! is one of Urban Ventures many community outreach programs. Through the efforts of GoLatino!, Urban Ventures continues to successfully build relationships in the Hispanic community by offering youth and family programming, community development initiatives, athletic leagues and special events, such as the Mexican Independence Day celebration. Hispanic Growth in Minnesota

Projections indicate that the number of Hispanic/Latinos living in Minnesota will grow 98 percent between 2000 and 2015. As a result of this growth it is becoming increasingly important for local businesses to find effective ways to reach this significant demographic.

Significant population growth in the Hispanic/Latino community is accompanied by notable increases in the buying power and economic impact of this population. In Minnesota, Hispanic/Latino buying power increased 547 percent between 1990 and 2005, the eighth highest growth rate in the nation.

The Hispanic/Latino population of Minnesota is relatively young, comparatively speaking. With close to 40 percent of the population falling within the highly sought after market of individuals between the ages of 18-34, the Hispanic/Latino population represents a significant opportunity for many businesses.
